o [-- [Presenter Natalya Zabuzova] Our Voronezh correspondent Olga Chernova has managed to visit a unique regiment.  For decades this secret military base has provided the country with unique air force technology. Its graduates have carried out hundreds of extremely complex tests of combat hardware, news of which emerged only today.

-- [Correspondent] Few people are familiar with the daily routine of the 445th [As heard - both the flag and a commemorative 49th anniversary certificate shown in the video clearly describe the unit as the "455th Bomber Aviation Regiment"] Aviation Instruction and Research Regiment of Bombers and Reconnaissance Aircraft.  Even celebrations marking the [49th] anniversary of the unit's foundation are restricted to a narrow circle of people, together with air force veterans, close friends and relatives. The record of this unique Russian air force regiment includes hundreds of secret operations. The 445th Regiment is regarded as the backbone of the country's frontline bomber force. Here they draw up the main documentation on flying techniques and aerodynamics and test the latest types of armaments and equipment.

-- [Correspondent] These unique pictures of the squadron's nonstop flight from Voronezh to the Transbaykal Military District are being shown for the first time.  It lasted 12 hours. Four in-flight refuellings were carried out.  The 445th Regiment has taken part in fighting in Tajikistan and the two Chechen campaigns.  During one year alone of the counterterrorist operation in the North Caucasus the Voronezh pilots carried out over 1,000 combat sorties.
