Commander, North Caucasus Military District

Boldyrev was born on 5 January 1949, in the village of Krasnoyarskiy, which is in the Uryupinskiy
District of Volgograd Oblsat.  He is married and has one son.

  • and first deputy commander and Commander of the Siberian military district, was nominated to be  the Siberian district commander, on 17 April 2001.  Boldyrev replaced Colonel-General Nikolai Kormiltsev who was appointed Ground Troops Commander and Deputy Defence Minister.

Education:

  • 1971, Moscow Higher Combined Arms Command School;
  • 1978, Frunze Military Academy;
  • 1992, General Staff Academy.

Career
Boldyrev occupied various posts in the Armed Forces, including platoon commander, company commander, battalion commander, senior officer of an army's operations department, regiment commander, division chief-of-staff, division commander, army commander, chief-of-staff and first deputy commander of a district. He got early promotion to the ranks of senior lieutenant, lieutenant and colonel. Boldyrev has been awarded the order For Military Merits and various medals

  • 1971, served in the Belorussian Military District and later with the Central Troop Grouping.
  • From 1978 senior officer at an army operations division.
  • 1979-1985 served in Mongolia as chief of staff and commander of a motorized rifle regiment and as chief of staff of a division.
  • 1985-1990 division commander in the Transbaykal Military District.
  • In 1992 army chief of staff in the Leningrad Military District.
  • In 1994 army commander.
  • September 1996 appointed Chief-of-Staff , Transbaykal Military District, First Deputy Commander of the Transbaykal Military District.
  • From 1 December 1998, appointed Chief-of-Staff and First Deputy Commander, Siberian Military District.
  • 28 May 2001 appointed Commander, Siberian MD.
  • 19 December 2002 Commander, North Caucasus MD.
  • Promoted to Gen Army (Agentstvo Voyennykh Novostey, 17 Dec 03).

  Boldyrev is bearer of the Order for Military Services and of thirteen medals.

"Vladimir Boldyrev is the placeman of General Nikolay Kormiltsev, the current commander in chief of the Ground Forces and deputy defense minister.  Between 1996 and 2001 they served in Chita -- Gen. Kormiltsev was commander of the Transbaykal and united Siberian Districts, while Boldyrev was his first deputy.  When Gen. Kormiltsev became commander in chief of the Ground Forces in the spring of last year, his successor in the post of commander was Gen. Boldyrev.  In turn, the commander in chief is close to Defense Minister Sergey Ivanov -- Nikolay Kormiltsev is the only one of all of the commanders in chief of Armed Forces branches of service to enjoy the status of deputy minister and is effectively subordinate not to Chief of the General Staff Anatoliy Kvashnin, but to the minister direct" (ITAR-TASS,18 Dec 02).
