Born in Kaliningrad, Moscow Oblast, on July 31 1995. Education: 1976 -- Ryazan Advanced Airborne Command School; 1985 -- Frunze Military Academy; 1995 -- General Staff Academy. Career Reconnaissance platoon commander, deputy company commander for airborne training, a company commander, and a battalion executive officer. Participated in combat operations in Afghanistan. Airborne battalion and regimental commander Commander, 106th Airborne Division Deputy Commander, 22nd Combined-Arms Army, deployed in Nizhny Novgorod. In 1998 became commander of the 35th Army, deployed in the Russian Far East. November 2000 appointed deputy commander of the Far East Military District. 8 September 2003 appointed commander of the Airborne Troops under a presidential decree (Agentstvo Voyennykh Novostey, 12 Sep 03).
