Since their introduction in 1996, Patriot missiles have been deployed in Nankang, Linkou, and Wanli to protect Taipei from missile attacks from the mainland [there are two towns named "Lin-k'ou" near Taipei, and it is not immediately apparent which one is the site of the Patriot battery]. Taiwan will test the US-made Patriot missiles in the middle of the year 2000 at Chiupeng missile base in Pingtung.
