Taichung Air Base

As of early 1998 Taichung Air Base was home to the 737th Tactical Fighter Wing, consisting of three squadrons [ 44 Sqn, 45 Sqn, 46 Sqn] equipped with F-5E and F-5F aircraft. Soon thereafter, this Wing was inactivated due to the drawdown in the number of F-5 aircraft on active service. As of the late 1990s, the longest runway at Taichung was reportedly 5,315 feet long.
Taichung is the major city in the central Taiwan region and is one of Taiwan's main business centers.

The five Sky Bow missile bases in Taiwan are located in Sanchih, a northern Taiwan coastal township; Penghu, an offshore island county off southwestern Taiwan coast; Taichung in central Taiwan; and two bases in the southern Taiwan county of Kaohsiung. Sky Bow missiles have been deployed in Tungyin, a small islet of the Matsu island group. All of the six Sky Bow missile bases are equipped with highly advanced phased array radar systems.
