Organisation of Iranian People's Fedaian (Majority) OIPFM
The first meeting of the People's Fedaian Movement was organised in 1963 by Bijan Jazani and his colleagues. They had reached the conclusion that the powerful American influence in Iran and the repression against liberal dissidents in Iran has made peaceful activism entirely ineffective. Armed struggle was therefore viewed as the sole effective way to liberation. In the period from 1971 to 1979, Fedaian came under an intense attack by the Shah's regime, with nearly 300 of Fedaian members were murdered by the regime. In this period the majority of the Organisation's leaders were captured and murdered. Fedaian played an effective and active role in the revolution of 1979 which was predominantly led by the supporters of Ayatollah Khomeini.
Disagreements over armed struggle led to a split within the Organisation in May 1981, when the term guerrilla was deleted from the name of the Organisation, while the
term majority was added.
