COMMUNIQUE NO. 26/CPM/99
The Generalised Popular Resistance publishes the most relevant military actions carried out during the period 17th to 20th June, 1999, in its defense against the aggression of Eduardo dos Santos.
1. Province of Lunda Sul:
On June 17th, a company of the tactical group of Luremo, based 8 km south of that village, was destroyed. The enemy left behind 13 dead soldiers and diverse lethal material.
On June 19th, one Kamaz truck carrying troops and war materials and one BMP-2 assault vehicle were destroyed on Kapaia/Lovua road, 57 km west of Lukapa. 19 enemy soldiers lost their lives.
2. Province of Zaire:
On June 20th, the enemy attack mounted by the MPLA 3rd tactical group of the 85th Regiment which intended to reoccupy the municipality of Kindege, 92 km east of N'Zeto, was repelled. During the action 22 enemy soldiers were killed - 3 x 82 m/m mortars, 5 x RPG-7 rocket launchers, 10 x PKM sub-machine guns, 13 x AK-47 light arms, one communications radio and large quantities of munitions and grenades of various calibers were captured. 4 x Kamaz transport trucks were destroyed.
On the same date, the 1st tactical group of the 13th Regiment was destroyed 20 km northeast of Mbanza Congo, which resulted in the death of 11 Eduardo dos Santos' troops.
3. Province of Kwanza Norte:
On June 20th at 7h 30am, the village of Luinga 39 km northeast of Samba Caju was liberated. This action resulted in the death of 16 enemy soldiers of the reserve battalion and the destruction of an arms dump.
4. Province of Uige:
On June 20th, the Generalised Popular Resistance forces stormed the enemy position occupied by a company of the 5th group which protected the Commune of Quindinga, 25 km east of Negage. The enemy suffered 9 dead.
In Summary:
Eduardo dos Santos' forces suffered the following human and materials casualties:
a) 90 Soldiers dead
b) materials destroyed:
5 kamaz transport trucks
1 BMP-2 assault vehicle
1 lethal arms dump
c) war materials captured:
3 x 82 m/m mortars
5 x RPG-7 rocket launchers
10 x PKM sub-machine guns
13 x AK-47 light weapons
1 x communications radio
- large quantities of munitions and grenades of various calibers
