1999 - Year of Generalised Popular Resistance

 

COMMUNIQUE NO. 23/CPM/99

 

Until José Eduardo dos Santos stops the war he declared against the people of Angola, the Generalised Popular Resistance will continue its defensive operations on all fronts of combat. In this regard the Standing Committee of the Political Commission wishes to make public the following actions:

1. Province of Huila:

On May 29th, our forces destroyed 2 MPLA military trucks on the road between Matala/Dongo. 15 soldiers died.

2. Province of Benguela:

On May 30th, the forces of the Generalised Popular Resistance stormed the municipality of Katengue, 60 km south east of Benguela. 14 MPLA soldiers died including the Commander of the unit.

On June 3rd, our forces stormed and took the commune of Chikuma, 178 km southeast of Benguela. 9 MPLA troops lost their lives.

3. Province of Moxico:

On June 2nd, our forces attacked an MPLA company on the road between Luena/Ponte Cassai. 8 MPLA soldiers lost their lives.

4. Province of Lunda Norte:

On June 3rd, our forces stormed and took the diamond mine of Jaribo. 10 MPLA commandos of the company that protected the mine were killed.

5. Province of Bié:

On June 3rd, the forces of the Generalised Popular Resistance destroyed 10 military trucks transporting logistic supplies, on the road between Menongue/Chitembo. 11 MPLA troops escorting the convoy lost their lives.

 

 

 

 

 

 

6. Province of Malange:

On June 3rd, an MPLA military group protecting the road between Malange/Kangandala, was attacked and, this resulted in the death of 11 MPLA soldiers.

On June 4th, 2 military trucks on the road between Lombe/Cacuso were attacked. This resulted in the fatal wounding of Colonel Catito - the Commander of the PCA grouping Malange, in Lombe, and the death of 6 other MPLA troops.

7. Province of Bengo:

On June 6th, our forces stormed the locality of Quesso, 23km northeast of Ucua. 8 MPLA troops were killed.

In summary: The MPLA suffered the following casualties:

- 92 troops confirmed dead

- 14 transport trucks destroyed

- captured: large quantities of arms and munitions of diverse calibers.
