Security Intelligence Service (SIS)
The Security Intelligence Service (SIS) is responsible for gathering intelligence
overseas. The Service's principal role is the production of secret intelligence in support of government security, defence, foreign and economic policies. It meets these requirements for
intelligence gathering and other tasks through a variety of sources, human and technical, and by liaison with a wide range of foreign intelligence and security services. Limited controlled rights to intercept private communication are available to the SIS under the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service Act 1969.
