- President Names John Negroponte as Director of National Intelligence, White House news conference, February 17. "As DNI, John will lead a unified intelligence community, and will serve as the principle advisor to the President on intelligence matters."
- FBIS To Modify DPRK, ROK Source Names, Foreign Broadcast Information Service, February 11. "On 1 February, FBIS will modify and begin using the names of North and South Korean sources it monitors in accordance with the US Government's Korean transliteration standard."
- Author cracks codes that keep the public in the dark by Bill Adair, St. Petersburg Times, February 6. "To make a point that the government is too secretive, William Arkin has published 600 pages of its secrets. In his book Code Names, Arkin reveals more than 3,000 codes ranging from Gray Fox (a clandestine Army intelligence effort) to Busy Lobster (an aerial refueling operation)."
