TEXT: CLINTON NAMES SHERIDAN TO DOD SPECIAL OPERATIONS MARCH 15

Washington -- President Clinton March 15 announced his intent to
nominate Brian E. Sheridan to serve as the Assistant Secretary of
Defense for Special Operations and Low-Intensity Conflict at the
Department of Defense.

The White House announcement said that the Assistant Secretary of
Defense for Special Operations and Low-Intensity Conflict is the
principal staff assistant and civilian advisor to the Secretary on all
Special Operations and Low-Intensity Conflict matters.

Sheridan, of Schenectady has been Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary
of Defense for Special Operations and Low-Intensity Conflict since the
summer of 1996. He came to the Department of Defense as the Deputy
Assistant Secretary for Drug Enforcement Policy and Support in May
1993.

DEFENSE FOR SPECIAL OPERATIONS AND LOW-INTENSITY CONFLICT AT THE
DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE

The President today announced his intent to nominate Brian E. Sheridan
to serve as the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations
and Low-Intensity Conflict at the Department of Defense.

Mr. Sheridan, of Schenectady, New York, has been Principal Deputy
Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and
Low-Intensity Conflict since the summer of 1996. He came to the
Department of Defense as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Drug
Enforcement Policy and Support in May 1993. Prior to coming to the
Defense Department, Mr. Sheridan was a consultant with Frank Lynn and
Associates, an international marketing consulting firm, from
1991-1992. From 1985 to 1989, Mr. Sheridan served with the Central
Intelligence Agency.

Mr. Sheridan received his B.A. from Boston College in 1982, an M.S. in
Foreign Service from the Graduate School of Foreign Service at
Georgetown University in 1985, and his M.B.A. from the University of
Chicago in 1991.

The Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and
Low-Intensity Conflict is the principal staff assistant and civilian
advisor to the Secretary on all Special Operations and Low-Intensity
Conflict matters.
