Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) in Jammu and Kashmir

A co-ordinated action plan is to be launched by the governments of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and the Centre to frustrate the designs of Pakistan sponsored terrorists spreading their activities to Himachal Pradesh. The Union Home Secretary Mr. B. P. Singh said after a high level meeting in Chandigarh yesterday that more central forces are being rushed to both the states for this purpose. The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah and his Himachal Pradesh counterpart Mr. Prem Kumar Dhumal said.

Centre's help has also been sought in the field of communication. Replying to a question Mr. Dhumal said three of the nine persons believed to be kidnapped by the terrorists after striking in Chamba area have returned and efforts are on to locate the remaining hostages.

The Pakistani firing in the Kargil sector in Ladakh frontier continued today unabated. However the guns fell silent near the line of control in Baramulla and Kupwara sectors. According to official sources Pakistani troops have been targeting the Srinagar-Leh national highway .

Military attaches of 25 foreign missions in India visited the border areas of Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir. The military attaches from the United States Britain, Kenya and East European countries West Asia and neighbouring nations were convinced about the involvement of Pakistan and the covert support of its Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) to the militants.
