TEXT: GORE STATEMENT ON BOMBINGS OF US EMBASSIES IN AFRICA

(No honest cause can be advanced by terrorist violence) (280)

Washington -- Vice President Gore August 7 extended his "deepest and
most heartfelt sympathy to the families, friends and fellow citizens
of all those killed or injured in the tragic bombings this morning at
the American Embassies in Nairobi and Dar-es-Salaam.

"Hundreds of innocent people -- Kenyans, Tanzanians, Americans, and
others -- now must live the rest of their lives missing and mourning
loved ones lost in today's terror," Gore said.

"That is tragic and senseless. No honest cause can ever be advanced by
terrorist violence.

"Let no one doubt that the United States will do whatever is necessary
to pursue the perpetrators of this evil and cowardly act, and bring
them to justice."

STATEMENT OF THE VICE PRESIDENT ON THE BOMBINGS OF U.S. EMBASSIES IN
AFRICA

I would like to extend my deepest and most heartfelt sympathy to the
families, friends and fellow citizens of all those killed or injured
in the tragic bombings this morning at the American Embassies in
Nairobi and Dar-es-Salaam.

Hundreds of innocent people -- Kenyans, Tanzanians, Americans, and
others -- now must live the rest of their lives missing and mourning
loved ones lost in today's terror. That is tragic and senseless. No
honest cause can ever be advanced by terrorist violence.

Let no one doubt that the United States will do whatever is necessary
to pursue the perpetrators of this evil and cowardly act, and bring
them to justice.
