SENATE CONFIRMS AMBASSADORIAL NOMINEES

The Senate confirmed five of President Clinton's foreign policymaking

nominations November 3, including those of three ambassadors to Europe.

They are:



-- Alan John Blinken to Belgium;

-- Swanee Grace Hunt to Austria;

-- Thomas Loftus to Norway;

-- Tobi Gati as assistant secretary of state for intelligence and research;

-- Daniel Spiegel to the U.S. mission's European Office at the United

Nations.



Partisan disagreements in the Senate between majority Democrats and minority

Republicans had held up the confirmation votes for several weeks.
