POW/MIA DOCUMENTS
HALL: Today, we have the fourth set of documents in response to the July
22nd presidential executive order to review and make available to the
public the Vietnam era POW/MIA documents. These documents, which are about
-- the ones we have today are about 4,700 pages. That makes a total so far
to date of about 87,000 pages. And these today come from intelligence
archives, primarily from the services, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, DIA, U.S.
Pacific Command, and the State Department, intelligence organizations, and
they span the years 1966 to 1992. There are also memos, letters and other
official correspondence. As before, we have one copy of today's release in
the reading room over at 2-E-776 and the release should also be available
in the Library of Congress Microform Reading Room at the Adams Building and
the interlibrary loan program by September 30th.

The number in terms of getting access to the past documents and these new
ones at the Library of Congress, you need to contact the photo duplication
1ervice at the Library of Congress and the number is 202-707-5640.

At 1:00 today, as in the past, we'll have someone from the POW-MIA office
who can talk about the types of documents that are included in this
collection. He'll give you the generic things about why these ones were
chosen -- why -- the certain types of information have to be redacted, but
he's not going to be able to do a comparison of document to document.
