Savannah River Plant
Multipurpose Pilot Plant Campus
The Multipurpose Pilot Plant Campus, operated by the Westinghouse Savannah River Company for the Department of Energy, has provided demonstration and new equipment testing for the Savannah River Laboratory since the mid 50's. The campus has been used to analyze fluid flow and heat transfer behavior for heavy water defense reactors; to test a series of melter designs in support of the Defense Waste Processing Facility; to conduct experiments and demonstrations in the fields of waste processing, solid waste management and environmental science; and to conduct a series of bench, reduced and full scale pilots to develop and demonstrate various emerging environmental and waste management technologies. The campus has approximately 40,000 ft2 administrative, 9,000 ft2 laboratory, 64,400 ft2 process area, and 24,000 ft2 of
warehouse space.
