The Fast Flux Test Facility (FFTF), located on the Hanford
Site in eastern Washington, is a 400-megawatt thermal
reactor cooled by liquid sodium. It was built in 1978 to test
plant equipment and fuel for the U.S. Government's liquid
metal reactor development program. Although the FFTF is not
a breeder reactor, this program demonstrated the technology
                         of commercial breeder reactors.
