169TH INTELLIGENCE SQUADRON


1. Mission. The 169th Intelligence Squadron (169 IS) is located at the Utah Air National Guard (ANG) Base, Salt Lake City, UT. The 169 IS provides indications, warning, and multidiscipline intelligence support to the National Command Authority and theater commanders.

2. Command. The 169 IS:

2.1. Is under the cryptologic and administrative control of the Air Intelligence Agency (AIA) and subordinate to the ANG. The ANG is subordinate to the National Guard Bureau, which in turn reports to the United States Air Force, Chief of Staff.

2.2. When activated, is operationally aligned within and subordinate to the Air Combat Command (ACC).

2.3. When mobilized to support operations, is under the operational control (OPCON) of the Director of Operations (ACC/DO) until their arrival into the supported area of operations (AOR). Once in the AOR, OPCON transfers to the supported CINC.

3. Responsibilities:

3.1. ACC is a major command and office of primary responsibility (OPR) for airborne reconnaissance operations. AIA is a field operating agency and the OPR for intelligence operations for the United States Air Force.

3.2. ACC, in coordination with the ANG and AIA, deploys appropriate resources (aircraft, crews, equipment, etcetera) to support in-theater commanders.

3.3. The 169 IS accomplishes missions as tasked by appropriate authority.
