Offensive and Defensive Operations and Intelligence

1. Description of Instruction Event: As a member of a manuever battalion or brigade staff, students will plan an offensive and defensive operation. Students are trained on each step of the tactical decision making process, with emphasis on intelligence preparation throughout planning. In staff groups, students brief products including the Intelligence Estimate; PIRs; friendly courses of action; Event Template; Decision Support Template; Synchronization Matrix; Intelligence Synchronization; Target List; Attack Guidance Matrix; and Reconnaissance and Surveillance Plan. Students will write paragraphs 1A, 2, and 3 of a brigade OPORD.
