The children of the Lucy Diggs Slowe Elementary School will host an unusual Santa on Wednesday, December 20 at 1:30 p.m. when the Deputy Director of Central Intelligence arrives with 10 computers and other educational presents in his sack.
Deputy Director George J. Tenet will give the previously-used computers, monitors and printers, as well as an assortment of "World Fact Books" and maps to the school on behalf of the CIA workforce. Slowe principal, Dr. Kaye Williams, wrote the Agency last Fall asking for help in creating classroom computer work stations. The CIA found 10 computers that were no longer useable by the Agency - and the gift exchange was arranged.
"We're delighted to help these youngsters prepare for the technological challenges of the 21st Century", said Deputy Director Tenet. "I'm impressed by the vision and leadership shown by Dr. Williams and her staff and am glad that the CIA can play a role in this venture."
The presentation ceremony at the Lucy Diggs Slowe Elementary School, 14th
and Jackson Streets, N.E., Washington, D.C., is open to the media.
